MarkI’ve been off and on RPOL for a few years. I’ll hop on, make a character in a game, then forget about it and leave it alone to disappear. But this time, I want it to be different.

I’m thinking about starting up a new PBP on RPOL, and was wondering if there were any takers? I’ve got the blog to keep me in line, as well as twitter. If I’m not keeping things going, you can message me here or on twitter for the world to see.

Most likely, I think we’d go for a Savage Worlds type game, but the genre of game is open to discussion.

Are you interested? Drop me a comment here, and we’ll begin the discussion by email.

dicemonkey-48Progress on the Savage Worlds Automata supplement is… well… progressing. I’ve got 4 different Automaton races, a few NPCs, and some great new layout designs, including running “Clickwise” along the bottom of the page. Things are going nicely.

Today’s preview is simple: Here’s the cover.

Automata2-1

It’s coming soon!

dicemonkey-48A few people may have noticed on my  Twitter feed, a discussion on converting Automata, the fantastic webcomic miniseries by Penny Arcade into an RPG, specifically, that of Savage Worlds.

Well, as the Penny Arcade guys are now continuing the story, it will allow me to complete the dark work I began. I’ll be posting up small previews of the material I’ve made so far, and get some feedback. Expect a complete PDF within a month or less. Please note that because the world of Automata has not been fully fleshed out, I will be filling in information on my own based purely off my own opinion of how things should be. The additional material is in no way reflective of any intentions of Gabe or Tycho.

Introduction

This is not the future you expected. It is the year 2023. Machine Intellect has been outlawed as the American people began to believe that man was not meant to “create life”. Introducing the 34th Amendment, “The Prohibition of the Creation of Artificially Intelligent Life”, Congress ordered all production plants to cease the manufacture of automata. That was 3 years ago.

But the question arises: What to do with the existing machines, fully sentient and aware? What rights should they hold in this grim world? Is their intellect real, a ghost in the machine, or simply a program? This is the question you and the other players at your table will explore as you delve into the world of Automata.

In Automata, you will play someone living in this strange new world of humanity and the legal automata that still exist as second

class citizens.

New Race: Swangee Men

The creation of Albert Swangee, Swangees are a more advanced stock than the Asimovs. Built to fit more into human society, Swangees are built with a human-like physique, but with emotionless faces and glowing blue eyes. Their dead expressions often set people on edge, and their voices carry an air of detachment. Most take on human names with the surname of Swangee.

Clickwise: All Automata are able to communicate with other automata through a language known as “Clickwise”. It sounds like an early 90’s modem, but transmits information between the automata at incredible speeds, allowing them to pass along information in a short amount of time.

Construct: +2 to recover from being Shaken, do not suffer wound penalties, and are immune to poison, diseas, suffocation. They gain a +4 to resist the effects of heat, cold and radiation.

Artificial Lifeform: Automata can’t heal and must be repaired if damaged.

Rare: Automata are becoming increasingly rare and getting parts could be difficult.

Electrical Susceptibility: Automata take an additional d6 damage from electrical attacks.

Outsider: Automata have a difficult time expressing their emotions and have difficulty relating to organic beings. They start with a -2 to their Charisma.

Eidetic Memory: Swangee Men have minds like cameras. They gain +2 bonuses on Common Knowledge rolls and on Smarts rolls made to remember something.

Throughout the week I have been busily posting my ideas/characters for a Savage World game based on the Twilight books by Stephanie Meyer.

Twilight-movie-04Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out.  Tonight I am hoping to run a one shot game using those characters for my husband.

Therefore, you all can look forward to my review of the game within the next few days.  I am truly loving the versatility of this system.  There are so many different options to be had.

I hope you all have enjoyed the posts and if you did or want more pre-generated characters for Twilight… let me know… I would be more than happy to do it.  It was a great opportunity to create some of the most well known characters such as Charlie Swan, Bella Swan (as a human), Bella Swan (as a vampire) and of course Edward Cullen.

A few notes about this character.  A few of the Edges I chose came from the Necessary Evil campaign setting book.  I did not use the Vampire Edge in Necessary Evil as it would have applied some facets to the character that do not fit with the series.  It worked out much better to use the Undead Edge and expand from there.  It would also be beneficial to take Bella to the next level and give her Edges such as Rich/Filthy Rich as this is also a major points in the series.

The Twilight phenomenon has swept across the world.  It started with the books by Stephanie Meyer and was quickly followed by the whirlwind film.

Twilight-movie-04Personally, I love the Twilight series.  Initially I was hesitant to read the books but once I did I was absolutely hooked.  And though my husband didn’t read them he was so kind and willing to take me to see the movie last November.  Surprisingly, he really enjoyed it.

Not only did my husband enjoy it but even some of the other gamers we play with, all men, read the series and found it highly entertaining.

This got me thinking.  Why not try to, from the knowledge I had in the books, do my best to create those characters as possible PC’s?

It was tougher than I expected and I tried making them using several different game systems such as d20 Modern and Vampire the Requiem.  Although they are great systems, my characters just weren’t turning out the way that I wanted them to.

Then my newfound love of Savage World crept up.  Once introduced to it I simply couldn’t say enough good about it.  Character creation is clean and concise and like most other good systems it’s pretty open to a myriad of campaign possibilities.

Therefore,  throughout the next week I will be releasing a character from the book that should be ready to be dropped into a campaign or one shot setting.  There will be Human-Bella, Vampire-Bella, Charlie (Bella’s father) and Edward Cullen.

As for campaign ideas I leave that up to  you.  The rules for Savage Worlds are relatively easy and if you have seen the movie or read the books I don’t imagine it would be too difficult to come up with a plot idea.

Enjoy!  And let me know if anyone decides to run a Savage Twilight game.  I would love to hear what you think.  I am looking forward to running one myself!

Tonight is going to be great.  We are starting a new campaign and are welcoming two new players to the table.

As far as I know both of our new attendees have had very little or no RPG experience.  It’s nice not to be the newbie at the table anymore :)

femme fataleWe will begin a Savage Worlds campaign set roughly in the WWII era.  We have spies with some superhero powers and enemies with the same.

Last night I prepared my character for tonight.  Her name is a Gemini.  She is a secret double agent.  When she’s working for the Russians her outfit is black as is her hair but with a white streak.  Then when she’s working for America her outfit is the same but white.  Her hair also becomes blond but with a black streak.

I gave her the Chameleon edge so that she can shift her shape at a moments notice.  Not so much to become something else but that essentially as she walks around a corner her outfit and appearance can change.  Then I also gave her the Wall Walking ability.  Once again, it’s not really to be a super hero but more than her training is so extensive that she can move pretty much matrix style.

I am looking forward to this.  I have really enjoyed fiddling with the Savage Worlds books and starting on Monday I will be releasing my ideas for a Savage based Twilight game.  Keep your eyes open for that!
