Hey boys and girls; it’s that time again. That time when I have two cents and some times you listen and give yours as well.
I’m a big Hard Rock and Heavy Metal fan but also very eclectic with the other genres I enjoy. Many people say that nowadays and it’s mostly true since music is so easy to come by. However, I truly believe everyone still has that one music genre they prefer. Mine is Metal.
Anyway, I’m writing this particular blog as a thought about a prior blog written by the Empty Threat on Dicemonkey. Essentially he wrote a blog about RPG games having their own playlists. I thought this was a great idea and I decided I would like to share a little of what I hear when I am playing.
I like to set a good mood in my mind when it comes to fighting, role playing, and even some times in real life when it comes to practicing and driving. When we are fighting in RPG land I have a tendency to hum a Heavy Metal tune. Anywhere from “Go Forth and Conquer” by Dethklok, to “Saksenland” by Heidvolk. If my party enters a place of mass wealth with several higher culture types running around I tend to picture someone playing Motzart or Chopin in the background, and when the ultimate baddie appears to ruin it, I can always seem to hear Beetoven or even soemthing as recent as the Phantom of the Opera Suite.
When things are going terribly crazy I have a tendency to hear “Montagues et Capulets” by Sergei Prokofiev. Even when our charaters are just traversing the wilderness I’ve got my own soundtrack plugged in with some old Southern Rock like “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Yet, not matter how free the feeling is I’ll always crave the combat and the destructive music in my head that seems to fit so well with it. Sometimes it can even inspire me to take risks. I mean, it is afterall just a game. Right?
What about you? What inspires you when you play? Be it music or art or whatever?
