Does the title say enough?
I should have been prepared. I had two nights to do so. But then the PHB2 came in, and all plans fell out the window.
It was bad. Last night, I gathered the players around the table, for a chance to play a one-shot of Mutants and Masterminds so that we could try out the universe of Gestalt.
Wow, it didn’t end well. After I pre-made the characters, we sat down, playing The Triumvirate, a group of three heroes: Daybreak, a Gestalt of Life, Nightfall, a Gestalt of Death, and Turncoat, a Gestalt of Revolution. The heroes looked over the character sheets, I attempted to explain all their powers and how damage worked.
I got more and more flustered, the players getting more and more confused, until I finally said, “you know what? We’re playing Kobolds Ate My Baby!”
After that, we had a great time, because KAMB is designed to be played on the fly. M&M is not in any way.
So remember kids, don’t run an RPG off the fly with players unfamiliar with the rules. Now you know.
AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE!!
GO JOE!!
