Welcome, once again, to another From Concept to Character Sheet.
In my last post, I talked about Ability Scores and where I chose to place them in Alric Hawklin’s sheet. This time, we’ll be talking about choosing Skills and Feats.
Now, as everyone knows, one of the big jumps in 4e from 3.x was changing how you spent your time with skill points. No more is there any “oh, I’ll just take two points in this, and three in the other thing.” Oh, no. Now, if you choose one of your class skills to be trained in, you get a flat +5 bonus. While I miss fiddling with my Skill numbers, I do appreciate having to spend very little time in that section of the character sheet, allowing me to move on to more important things.
Now, a normal fighter would be able to choose three trained skills from the following selection: Athletics, Endurance, Heal, Intimidate, and Streetwise.
But since I’m a human I get to choose four. So I’ll now be trained in all but one skill, which is nice.
I’ll chose Athletics, since I think he should be fairly strong, and good at such things as swimming, jumping, climbing trees.
I’ll also choose Heal, since I know that he will have picked up some training while out on the field in helping his fallen comrades.
I’ll go with Intimidate, because I want him to be imposing. He will use his intimidate to threaten people more than muscle his way around and physically harm them.
Finally, I’ll go with Streetwise. I think he’s picked up a thing or two while wandering the back alleys of the world. Maybe he’s learned a thing or two from his gnomish scholar friend.
I get two feats due to my human nature (humans are definitely a viable choice of races in the new 4e, I must say). I think it’s a simple choice. I’ll go with Armor Proficiency (Plate) and Mounted Combat.
I’ll chose the plate proficiency because I want him to look like an imposing, armored knight on the battlefield, and I think he’s probably inherited it from his father’s father’s father. I’ll take mounted combat, because I want him to be the type of knight who rides into battle slaying the foe from horseback. It’ll also give me access to any types of special attacks my mount gets. Bonus.
That’s all for this entry. Next time we’ll be covering Powers.
Keep rolling 20’s!
