I read this article back when it was first published in Dragon, years ago. Thanks for posting it. When my ex and I separated, I got most of the game books, but he ended up with all the magazines. I've been lamenting the loss of this article for the last three years; it inspired me when I first read it and continues to do so today.

Thanks for reintroducing me to an old friend.

That is a great article, Thanks for posting it. It reminds me of the picture of the kobold in the monster manual. He was holding a staff with a a scorpion tied to the end by a string. That picture totally made me rethink monsters with low/avg INT. How smart does a monster have to be to think of interesting ways to defend themselves, especially on their home turf with time to prepare. I stole the idea from the picture and had my players run into a ambush of kobolds with dangerous things like scorpions tied to the staffs. After the first PC went down from a deadly poison and no kobold had been injured, they started to freak. I guess that is why it is a good idea not to underestimate a bunch of sneaky humanoids.
