We’ve all heard it a million times by now: The dedicated 3.5 gamers are still furious with 4e for “ruining the game.”

And here is where I have a problem.

I love 3.5. I have roughly 125 non-4e D20 books, nearly 100 of those are 3.5 D&D. I believe I have the credentials to back up my love of 3.5. Here is where the issue arises:

Just because Wizards of the Coast is no longer supporting 3.5, doesn’t mean that it’s dead, or that D&D is ruined. There are still a lot of publishers out there dedicated to publishing 3.5 material. Less than half of my 3.5 books are by WotC. With the Open Game License out there, publishers can continue to publish 3.5 material to their heart’s content. I encourage them to.

But I also love 4e. I think the streamlining of the rules, and the changes they made are for the better. So while some may continue to play 3.5 exclusively, I encourage them to TRY 4e. Every person I know who was against 4e who has tried it has enjoyed it.

Listen: I’m not saying that if you enjoy 4e you have to destroy all of your 3.5 books. Far from it. If that was true, I would have half the collection I have now. I’m just saying: Think before you speak.

That is all. Thanks.
